People used minerals for different reasons from ancient time.

The subject, which studies the minerals is called Mineralogy.

Mineralogy appeared in ancient time that had very close connection with people�s activities. The oldest notices concerning minerals are kept in Aristotele�s. Alinius junior�s recordings. Also in the works of ancient Chineese and Indian scientists. The formation of Mineralogy as a science, is connected of the development of minerals and usage of minerals chemistry. Mineralogy as a knowledge has been famous for many , many years in Georgia . The usage of precious stones have proved it that have been discovered in the cultural monuments.

Minerals are very important for practical activities , so we use them in our modern time and in our everyday life. And that is why the demand on minerals increases day by day.

There are more than 2000 minerals in the world , but they don�t have the same structure.

There are many sciencies in the world, who have learnt the minerals and one  of them was an eminent chemist- Vernadsky ,who was aware of the structures of minerals by heart. Georgian mineralogists are: Al.Tvalchrelidze, Al. Djanelidze and so on.

We can get minerals through synthetic and natural ways.
